About Us

Mike Downing Sales was initially started in 1989 as an extension of Mike Downing's passion for climbing. As an experienced big wall climber, sport climber, ice climber and World Cup climbing competitor, it was a natural for Downing to start a business that was all about climbing. Downing first started selling La Sportiva in 1989 and has been a manufacturer's sales representative for Arcteryx since 1993. Downing still climbs all over the world and continues to test and sell climbing and outdoor gear with the same motivation as when he started. He is also a skier, snowboarder, and mountain biker and has run several mountain marathons. He lives in Boulder with his wife Shelley and their son Spencer and travels the Rocky Mountain states of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming.
